Roger Federer became the sixth man in history to win all four Grand Slam singles titles when he produced an exceptional performance to defeat Swede Robin Soderling 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 in the Roland Garros final on Sunday. Victory for Federer also saw him tie Pete Sampras’ all-time record of 14 major singles titles.

I’ve never been a huge Roger Federer fan but after watching last night’s French Open 09 finals, I have to say that he’s really the greatest player of all time. To win a grand slam is not easy but to win in all four is just incredible. And I think he could win another one… not that I want him to (haha) but it’s not really impossible for someone like him. Anyway, congratulations to Roger Federer! After years of losing to Nadal in Roland Garros, I think he deserved to win this year. :)

I do hope Rafa Nadal could win Wimbeldon again and the US Open this year (the only slam he hasn’t won) :) And then he’ll be the seventh man in history to win all four Grand Slams. heh. :D I also really hope Andy Roddick will win another slam but with Nadal & Federer still in the race, it’s not going to be easy for him. But he’s doing really well this year so … *cross fingers* :D

The title says it all… They got married last Friday at his Austin home . Okaaay (bitter)

hahahaha

I found this really nice blog called, Roddick Watch last week. I can’t remember where or how I found it but this blog is pure Andy Heaven!

This guy owns my heart. ;)

I’m still high on tennis so bear with me…

Last night was the Australian Open ‘09 Men’s Singles Finals. My family and I were actually glued to Star Sports (except my mom) from 4pm to around 9 -9:30pm. As usual, it was a Rafa Nadal – Roger Federer match. It doesn’t really surprise me anymore if those two play the finals every single tournament. They’re the 1 & 2 in the world so they’re expected to last until the finals. It gets a little boring sometimes because up until last year, you get to see their faces every Grand Slam event (not that I mind seeing Rafa every single day of my life hahaha) but last night was different, I guess. Federer is trying to match Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slams and Nadal’s trying to win his first ever Grand Slam in hard court.

Anyway, to make a long story short, after a grueling 4+hours , 5-set match ( 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2 ), Rafael Nadal won! Yay!

Rafa is soo amazing! He only had 1 day to prepare for his Sunday finals match (He finished his 5 + hour, 5-set semifinal match against Fernando Verdasco Friday night or Saturday morning since they finished past 12mn) and he still played incredible in the finals! It was unbelievable.

The big surprise, though, was when Roger Federer cried during the presentation of the trophies and stuff. He was supposed to speak after he was given his trophy but then he actually cried. I felt bad for him but that’s sports.. you win some, you lose some.

“I love this game. It means the world to me, so it hurts when you lose,” said Federer. ”This is one of the matches in my career where I feel like I could have or should have won.

“But you can’t go through your whole life as a tennis player taking every victory that’s out there. But they hurt even more if you’re that close, like at Wimbledon or like here at the Australian Open. So that’s what’s tough about it. But I have no regrets.

“In the first moment [afterwards] you’re disappointed, you’re shocked, you’re sad then all of a sudden it overwhelms you. The problem is you can’t go in the locker room and just take it easy and take a cold shower. You can’t. You’re stuck out there. It’s the worst feeling.” -Roger Federer

Oh! And a Filipino actually won in Australian Open Juniors Boy’s Doubles.. for the first time! I’m happy for the kid. His name is Casey Alcantara (his parter is Taiwanese, Cheng-Peng Hsieh) and I think my dad has seen him play a few times. Good for him. I think it’s about time we have someone represent us in these events. I hope the government would give him the support he needs (going to all those tennis events would require lots of money). It’s about time those people give their support to someone who deserves it and has the potential to make it big.

Australian Open ‘09 – Day 9 Quarterfinals

I don’t get to watch it every day but I try to get updated through the ATP website.

Big shocker.. Andy Murray lost in the 4th Round. He’s ranked 4 and one of the ‘boy most likely to win’ but surprisingly, he lost to Fernando Verdasco (seeded 15).

But Andy Roddick’s in the quarterfinals (yay!) He’s playing pretty well these past few weeks so I hope he’ll win later. (Andy Roddick – Novak Djokovic match!)

In other news, I’m currently obsessed with Nutella. I’ve always liked Nutella but I don’t eat it very often so I let my cousins eat the ones at home. But I love it on bread right now. I’ve been eating Nutella on bread for lunch these past few days. Yum! I wish I can have Nutella everyday but I can’t. haha
